We're Here For You Every Step of the Way
Options  • Local anesthesia (7-12 weeks) • IV sedation (under 13 weeks) • Asleep  • Medical abortion (up to 6 weeks)

First Trimester Anesthesia Local Anesthesia: The patient is awake during the procedure. The physician administers medication which relaxes the cervix and reduces discomfort during the procedure.

IV Sedation: The physician administers medication which reduces pain and anxiety.

Asleep: The anesthetist administers medication and provides care so that the patient is asleep while the physician performs the procedure.

Second Trimester (13 to 21 weeks) Evaluation, counseling and preparation are conducted in the office. The procedures are performed the following day at the Medical College of Virginia under general anesthesia.

Medical Abortion Evaluation is thorough to insure that the patient is a good candidate for this means of abortion. Then medication is administered so that the pregnancy is ended at home. Close follow-up is provided.

Insurance Coverage Some insurance companies cover abortion. Please inquire when making appointments so that all proper forms, authorizations, co-pay amounts, etc. may be explained.

Follow-Up Care A follow-up exam three weeks after termination is provided at no additional fee. 24 hour emergency phone service is available. Please call (804) 359-5066. If no answer, call (804) 257-5078. A board certified gynecologist is always available.
