For over 35 years we have provided high-quality abortion and gynecological care in respectful and compassionate environment. Women can feel comfortable choosing CFHC and heath care providers can feel confident in referring their patients to us. We hope this mini-site helps you to understand what to expect if you are considering abortion.
There may be no decision more important than whether or not to bring a child into the world. When a woman finds she is pregnant when she did not intend to be, she may be confronted with a wide range of feelings.
Unplanned pregnancy can trigger many emotions, like feeling scared, confused, angry, alone or ambivalent. If you are feeling undecided or overwhelmed and need someone to talk to, remember that you are not alone, and we are here to help.
Our counseling sessions are free of charge and may include your husband, boyfriend, family member, friend or other companion at your request. It is critical that you take the time you need to ask questions, sort through your feelings and come to a decision that aligns both your head and your heart.
Whatever you decide, our goal is to support you in a caring, professional and nonjudgmental way.
CFHC offers both surgical abortion and early abortion pill. Appointments include lab work, ultrasound and a counseling session. This session provides you with the opportunity to share your concerns, have all of your questions answered, and discuss birth control options. We offer a variety of methods and free samples to choose from.
Surgical abortion is one of the most common and safest surgical procedures performed in the U.S. At CFHC, skilled and caring physicians perform surgical abortions 6 weeks to 14 weeks, 6 days from the start of a woman's last menstrual period (LMP). The abortion lasts about 5-10 minutes, during which women are awake and may experience some cramping. To minimize discomfort as much as possible, we provide local anesthesia, oral analgesics and anti-anxiety medication.
You may have a family member or companion with you during the procedure, as well as in the recovery room where you will rest for about 20 minutes. You should be able to return to normal activities the following day. We encourage women to return to CFHC for a free follow-up appointment in 3 weeks. This includes a pregnancy test, a physical exam if needed and time to speak with a counselor about your feelings, questions or concerns.
Medication abortion is a non-surgical method of pregnancy termination that allows a woman to end her pregnancy in the privacy and comfort of her own home.
The process requires two visits to the clinic. During the first visit you will receive lab work, counseling, a physical exam and ultrasound followed by a medication (Mifeprex), which is taken orally and starts the abortion process.
A second medication (misoprostol) is provided for you to take at home 24-48 hours later to help your uterus contract and complete the abortion. Heavy cramping and bleeding can occur and may last several hours. It is advisable that during this time you have a support person with you.
A follow-up visit in two weeks ensures that the abortion is complete.
