The Hope Clinic performs abortions from 4 to 24 weeks LMP (last menstrual period).
Medical Abortion (the abortion pill) is offered up to 8 weeks LMP. See the eligibility requirements and the comparison of medical and surgical abortions for additional information.
First trimester abortions are from 5 to 15 weeks LMP. They are performed by vacuum aspiration, the safest and most modern method for this length of pregnancy.
Second trimester abortions are from l6 to 24 weeks LMP. They are performed by the D & E method, the safest and most modern method for this length of pregnancy. This procedure requires two days with the patient being at the clinic approximately 3-4 hours each day. Patients who live more than 45 minutes away are required to stay in the Granite City area. Information on area motels is provided.
Appointments can usually be scheduled within one or two days of your request. We perform abortions Tuesday through Saturday.
No parental or spousal consent is required for a patient to have a surgical abortion at our clinic. We do require parental consent for the abortion pill.
We have state of the art security equipment and 24 hour security. We also have volunteer escorts on days when protesters are expected (typically Saturdays)
The fees for abortions at The Hope Clinic include ultrasound (sonogram), individual counseling, lab tests, extra medications to aid relaxation, aromatherapy, contraceptive education, a one-month supply of birth control pills (or the birth control patch or vaginal ring), antibiotics to prevent infection, and the abortion procedure. Our patients who wish to have the birth control shot on the day of the procedure pay a nominal extra fee.
Patients are counseled individually concerning their decision and feelings toward abortion. The counselors tailor the depth of the care to the specific needs of the patient. A variety of issues are covered including help in exploring options. Counseling also covers the abortion procedure and birth control information. Family counseling is provided if needed or requested.
Patients are discharged with complete post-abortion instructions and medications. A 24-hour telephone number is provided to patients who have been seen at the clinic.
