Abortion is legal throughout the United States until the end of the second trimester, and later in special circumstances, based upon a U.S. Supreme Court case known as
Roe v Wade. In Washington State your right to abortion and birth control is protected by state law. Abortion is an option regardless of your age.
The cost of abortion ranges from $550 to $6000. Many health insurance plans cover abortion. If you are pregnant and low-income in Washington State, you can apply for DSHS medical coverage to pay for pregnancy-related services. DSHS covers abortion with follow-up birth control, OR prenatal care, birth and follow-up birth control. You can also get your choice of a wide variety of birth control methods through the Take Charge program.
If you - or someone you know - is pregnant, it is a good idea to talk about it with someone you trust. Talk with a friend, parent, teacher, relative, or call a clinic. Once you have made your decision, believe in yourself for making a good decision.
If you have an abortion, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. One in three American women will have an abortion in her lifetime.
Women who choose abortion are women of every generation, occupation, income level, ehnicity, nationality and religion. We are grandmothers, mothers, daughters, aunts, cousins, sisters, best friends, teachers, ministers, doctors, elected officials and daycare workers.
